Animals are unpredictable things, and so our life is unpredictable. It's a long tale of little triumphs and disasters and you've got to really like it to stick it.

First Clinical Exam

So... I did my DOPS yesterday. Wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Relatively simple really.

There were five stations.

1. Dog. I had to get the dog out of the cage using a slip lead, do heart rate and femoral pulse, do a clinical exam commenting on eyes, ears, coat and body condition score. Got good feedback from this one, but was told to reassure the dog more when doing heart rate.

2. Chicken. I had to get a chicken out of a cage examine it's feet, wings and skin. Then check it's comb, wattle, beaks and eyes. Then check another hen's cage for eggs without distressing the animal. She told me I was very calm.

3. Sheep. I had to tip a selected sheep and check its feet. Told me I'd done well.

4. Horse. I had to put a headcollar on, pick up a hoof. Walk the horse out of the stable in a circle and back in again. Told me my technique was goodI needed more confidence haha stupid me was too busy concentrating on doing things correctly not the way I normally do them since I've developed bad habits that I looked nervous. Oops. I'll be very annoyed if I fail on horses.

5. Cow. I had to put a halter on, tie her up using a quick release cow knot then check her udder. He told me I knew how to do it well enough etc but I stood too much to the front of the cow, rather than to the side.

So... hopefully that's a pass. Off home tonight wooohoo. After work anyway, got to hang around for my train until 5:35 as thats the direct and cheapest one.
